Araippe
Araippe is the official mascot and character of Oarai Town that was created in 2013. He is a cheerful creature whose body is made from a combination of Oarai’s specialty products such as whitebait (shirasu) and hamaguri clams. With a clam in his mouth and a tail in the shape of a rake used for clam digging, he has a cute round shape. His most charming point is the wiggly shirasu on his body.
His backstory is that one day he was tossed ashore on a sandy beach and became injured. He was nursed back to health by a local fisherman, and in order to repay the favor, he participates in many of Oarai's promotional events. He loves fireworks and he shakes with excitement when he sees them.
